CHW's Intellectual Property Policy (130.1.001) describes how creative works developed within CHW are viewed, handled, managed and shared.
Steps to Commercialization
Assessing an innovation and, if appropriate, putting legal protections in place can be a lengthy process. For example, while copyright protection is readily available for creative works like books or articles, it may take four to five years for issuance of a single patent. However, if an innovation has commercial potential, the marketing/commercialization phases and the legal protection phase can take place concurrently. This chart outlines the steps prior to establishing a relationship with a partner for the commercialization of an invention.
